Tehran Conference and KEPCO Projects On 2nd day of Tehran Oil & Gas Conference on November 2015, KEPCO has announced its offshore exploration and development projects in terms of IPC contract. Mr. Etemadi the head of exploration department has elucidated the activities undertaken by KEPCO in Caspian Sea and its adjacent provinces and other promising prospects. He explained a brief history of carbohydrate exploration in South Caspian Basin that included 30,000 kilometers of 2-D seismic acquisition and interpretation that initiated clear understanding of possible carbohydrate potentials including identification of 46 small and large structures, of which eight blocks were singled out as the NIOC immediate scenarios for development. Between 2003 and 2005, 4000 km. of 3-D seismic were carried out to clear out any ambiguity with regard to blocks 6-7-8 and 29 and final decision was made to perform the first exploratory drilling on block 6.2. Mr. Etemadi elaborated: "The initial well reached oil deposit at Sardar-e-Jangal field near the depth of 2500 m. This was the first oil discovery in Caspian Sea by Iran. The second exploration/appraisal well was drilled to the depth of 3500m to confirm and complement the records of first well. The volume of discovered oil estimated to be 2 billion barrels while better prospects might exist within deeper down layers. In addition of block 6 of sardar-e-Jaga, three other blocks (24, 26 and 29) were introduced to the conference attendees. KEPCOs head of exploration further explained that, the existence of many relevant key infrastructures such as oil terminals, Sadra Marine Industry Company, North Drilling Company and KEPCO logistical base in Caspian Sea are great asset for any investment by big international oil companies in Caspian Sea oil and gas projects. In special panel, Mr. Karim Zobeydi the member of KEPCO Board of Directors as a guest said: "The presence of high quality light crude oil in Sardar-e-Jangal field has added benefit for investors. Due to the location of the field in deepwater we prefer to work with companies with great knowledge and experience in deepwater ventures". Due to the importance of the event, many KEPCOs top executives were active in conference proceedings.
